Success in life comes from passion and hard work. When you have passion you will succeed, because it’s not work, it’s love.
I have taken over the running of our Farm & Equestrian Store. This is not a career I foreseen but I cannot imagine working anywhere else now. We have a very knowledgeable team and I’ve learnt a lot from my predecessors and from my colleagues who I work with daily.
W&J Chambers has humble origins in concrete block manufacturing way back before my time in 1935. My great grandfather John Chambers spotted an opening in the market for quality building materials. I believe he would be amazed to witness the busy operations today – 86 years later. It is a truly remarkable story and with the momentum gained over the years, W&J Chambers can shout from the rooftops that in their eighty-fifth year in business we achieved European recognition in quality for our manufacturing of concrete blocks. The wealth of experience has propelled us as a market leader in the Northwest of Ireland.
You may ask the question – how does a manufacturing company become involved in a different market, such as retailing of agricultural feeds and delving into the equestrian world? A feed mill came on the market in 2005 in our home village of Drumahoe. It was an opportunity not to be missed and an investment, which would benefit the local community. So, the purchase was completed, and W&J Chambers Farm & Equestrian Store was born. The store is an essential service to the surrounding local area; supplying top quality nutritious feeds to the agricultural, equestrian and pet market. Not only do we supply the necessities we stock a wider selection for farmers and equestrians including clothing such as everyday workwear and premium equestrian apparel. Our store is also home to a large selection of farming supplies such as gates, fencing posts, pipes and fertiliser.
The Store has developed to become the heart of the local farming and equestrian community. But it has also expanded over the last few years to become a one-stop-shop for homeowners and gardening enthusiasts, supplying everything from compost to weedkillers to railway sleepers to reclaimed Bushmills whiskey planters.
So, what is next you may ask? The future is Chambers ……
We have big plans. The focus of our team over the last two years has been to concentrate on what we do and do it well. Every member of staff has expertise in their field. This experience and knowledge have proven to be our unique selling point. We have dedicated our energies into housing a wider range of goods but more importantly, a carefully chosen range of tested products for our customers.
As we continue to expand our range and handpick brands to stock for the future, the next step is ‘cement’ in place our own brand and vision. We have been creatively working behind the scenes to bring to our customers a whole new Chambers experience. Starting with our new logo, followed by the launch of our website, which is the next step in the exciting journey, Team Chambers will also be revealing our own equestrian range just in time for Christmas. But we are not just stopping there; there are plans in place to bring to our customers a new superstore, yes, a super-store.
When you have passion – you will succeed, because it is not work its love.
